Summer Team Event

Last week our team were able to meet up for our first social event since our Christmas party back in December 2019!

Zoe is our Head of Back Office Support, but also our ‘unofficial’ social secretary, she arranges the most awesome events. These events allow us all to come together, be a team and have fun. Despite the fact this social event had been delayed on three occasions, we were finally able to meet and enjoy each other’s company, have a laugh and see each other away from the screens of our laptops.

We arrived at Madison’s roof terrace near St Paul’s, to be greeted by our waiter for the evening who was primed, ready with ice buckets and glasses full of rose wine, Champagne, or cold beer. The resident DJ was playing some awesome tunes and with the heat on your face, you could easily close your eyes and feel like you were somewhere abroad, maybe Ibiza. A lady arrived with her saxophone a little later to play alongside the DJ and the place felt like it became alive.

Early afternoon and the waiters arrived with trays of canapes and bowl foods of lamb, salmon or risotto which were all really tasty. Looking around the crowd and seeing all of the smiling faces of the team, it was as though the last year and a half had never happened.

The hardest part of having the team working from home was ensuring that we didn’t lose that team feel. Our team are used to going out for drinks occasionally after work in the summer months and getting together as a wider team once a quarter after our company updates to have some time together as a team away from the office, so to be in a position where we couldn’t all be in the same place has been hard going.

During the various lockdowns, we held virtual quiz nights and bingo sessions, but nothing beats standing face-to-face on a roof terrace with the sun on your face, your work colleagues enjoying a nice cold glass of something and the spectacular views over the city.

We have been one of the lucky ones and thankfully our business was not hard hit by the Pandemic. We were able to adapt and moved quickly to remote working. This put pressure on us to improve our technology and systems but has put the business in a much stronger position than it was previously. Being in a position now where we can offer more flexible working because we know we can be just as productive has been a real advancement in our position.
