Josh Katz is the chef-owner of Berber & Q Grill House and Berber & Q Shawarma Bar in Haggerston and Exmouth Market, London respectively. Josh has cooked on BBC 1’s Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and is a regular feature at Meatopia, London’s premier annual food festival dedicated to barbecue.
He regularly contributes recipes to several leading food publications including Delicious, Waitrose and Olive and in 2016 was announced as one of London’s hottest chefs by Time Out London. Josh worked at Ottolenghi, Galvin Bistrot de Luxe and Zest before opening Berber & Q in 2015. Berber & Q is the product of a lifelong exposure to diverse cultures and cuisines. Growing up in North London meant regular visits to the many Middle Eastern restaurants, falafel shops, grocery stores, bakeries, butchers, and the Shawarma houses which became regular after-school haunts. Dishes and cuisines savoured outside of London have also impressed themselves on Josh’s cooking, spending swathes of time wandering Istanbul’s local markets; searching for the best grill houses in Marrakech and sampling Jemaa el-Fnaa’s specialities; and eating meat skewers in Tel Aviv’s many Shipudim restaurants. Berber & Q The Cookbook is Josh’s first cookbook.
Josh became a client in 2013 originally just managing investments. It was when he became a father to Delilah 2 years ago however that we really started to engage with lifestyle financial planning with him, discussing what matters most, ensuring he was able to afford sufficient child care to run his growing brand whilst also creating a balance that allowed him to spend time with her, helping him understand that life is not a rehearsal and how investing in himself and his brand will provide him with his best return on investment and on life.
